AOPA Coding and Billing Seminar
An overview of the new changes and best practices.
Earlier this year, I attended the latest coding and billing seminar. This seminar was a great follow-up to my trip to Washington DC to advocate on Capitol Hill for Medicare benefits. The billing and coding seminar is an annual two-day course that provides the latest updates for coding rules on prosthetic components.
This year saw quite a few changes. Specifically regarding prosthetic feet due to new PDAC rules for how feet are billed. Day one was focused on coding changes in orthotics and prosthetics. We saw suggestions to improve getting claims paid through Medicare. On day two, we discussed successful techniques to survive audits and best practices for filing appeals to rejected claims.
Overall, the coding and billing seminar is one of the best courses I have ever taken, and I recommend this to any practitioner. Due to the constant changes in Medicare rules, I may repeat the course in a couple of years. It would be a great benefit to see O&P schools consider bringing AOPA staff to the different campuses to teach this class to students. A course like this would better prepare residents for life after graduation.
