The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association heads to DC

Every year the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association makes a trip to Washington DC for an event we call the Policy Forum. This event attracts a couple of hundred professionals in the Orthotics and Prosthetics community. Here we collectively advocate for different legislature that helps our profession or patients.

This year we were in Washington DC supporting HR 1990, and in the Senate, the bill was S2556 (same bill, just different numbers between house and senate). The bill is called the “Patient-Centered Care Act,” It ensures patients will have access to quality care and reduce fraud and abuse for Medicare patients.

I was there to represent the Illinois group, and we visited several Illinois congress offices and the two Senate offices of Senator Duckworth and Senator Durbin. In these meetings, we meet with staff members to promote and ask for support from the legislature on the table.

The trip was successful, with much hope and support for the bill.
