2022 AOPA National Assembly

Serving my duties as Past-Chair of the National Commission for Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE), I attended the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) national assembly in San Antonio, Texas, from September 28- October 1, 2022. The theme of the convention this year was technology + humanity, and the meeting lived up to its objective. Attendees could learn about the latest technologies, clinical practice, and business guidelines.

Aside from committee meetings all week, I was able to sit through the workshop on the QuatroMicroprocessor knee from Proteor, and the workshop about the Taska hand Gen2 by Fillauer. I attended various business meetings presenting the latest Medicare updates, emotional burnout, and outcome measures for medical necessity. The clinical education seminars were fascinating as the latest information was presented on Osseointegration and the latest on vacuum systems.

The most rewarding part of the meeting is seeing former students and finding their progression since graduation. It’s great to see how successful they have become.
